NEWS
Short News Snippets From Around The World

The Big Easy. Ernie Els urged Tiger Woods to consider joining the PGA Tour Champions when he turns 50 in 2026, saying it would help him regain golf shape and allow cart use without stigma. Woods, sidelined in 2025 by an Achilles injury, was challenged by Els to “beat us again…if you can.”

The Masters. Augusta National and The R&A have announced a new international exemption system for The Masters starting in 2026. Winners of the Scottish, Spanish, Japan, Hong Kong, Australian, and South African Opens will now receive automatic invites. This aligns Masters qualification more closely with The Open, broadening global pathways, though LIV Golf players remain excluded.

Showdown. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and No. 2 Rory McIlroy will captain four-man teams in a new made-for-TV all-star event this December. Produced by Versant, it follows past Showdown formats but excludes LIV players. Scheduled after the Grant Thornton Invitational, it adds to golf’s unofficial year-end exhibition calendar.

No Bradley. Keegan Bradley named his six captain’s picks for the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup Team: Sam Burns, Patrick Cantlay, Ben Griffin, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, and Cameron Young. They join automatic qualifiers Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau. He surprisingly left himself out of the team to focus on the Captaincy.

Young Gun. Miles Russell, 17, claimed his second Junior PLAYERS Championship title at TPC Sawgrass, becoming the event’s first repeat champion. He closed with steady play and a clutch birdie at 17 to edge Bailey Sutter by one shot. Asher Vargas finished third in the elite AJGA international field.
