2024! I can’t believe 2023 is done and dusted. I hope you all had a wonderful festive season and had a good party last night.
2023 was a hectic year for me personally and in the golfing world. Personally, work was challenging with internal issues making it very difficult to operate, and my golf game was not up to the standard that I would like.
In the golfing world we had 4 great Majors, an incredible Ryder Cup, LIV taking off, ladies golf exploding, Tiger playing again and more. Let’s hope 2024 is going to give us the same great golfing memories.
Enough chit chat, get that coffee ready or whatever cures your hangover and let’s dive in ⛳🏌️♀️🏌️

The Wrong Driving Under The Influence. LIV Golf member Harold Varner III was arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina, for driving under the influence with a .16 blood alcohol concentration, twice the legal limit. Booked and released on $500 bail, Varner III is scheduled to appear in court on January 19, 2024. I wonder what DJ will have to say about this as HV has just joined the 4 Aces.
Poulter vs Horschel. Ian Poulter claims Billy Horschel asked for $45 million to join LIV Golf in their latest social media spat. The exchange began with Poulter disputing Horschel's post about swing speeds. Poulter then alleged Horschel sought nearly $50 million to join LIV Golf, backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. The two were former teammates, and Poulter joined LIV in 2022 for around $20 million.
PGA and LIV Extend Negotiations. The PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund plan to extend their negotiation deadline until April, aiming to merge commercial operations under PGA Tour Enterprises. Originally expected by the end of 2023, slow progress and private equity entering discussions have caused delays. The hope is for a finalized deal before the 2024 Masters in April. The removal of a non-solicitation agreement may lead to player movement between PGA Tour and LIV Golf. A deal with Strategic Sports Group, including U.S. sports team investors, is also under consideration.
OWGR to Make Changes. The Official World Golf Ranking introduces changes, enhancing points distribution for limited-field events. Tournaments with 80 players or less, including signature events, will see the winner receive approximately 21% of total world-ranking points, up from 17 to 18%. A "multi-win benefit" grants a 70% points bonus to players with multiple victories in a 52-week ranking window, promoting quicker recognition of emerging talent. Additional adjustments exclude the bottom 15% of no-cut, limited-field events from OWGR points and deny points to match play players losing in the first round or winning no matches in pool play. All a little confusing but lets see how it takes off this year.
STATS
Everyone Loves A Tiger Stat 🐯
With Tiger Woods turning 48 last week, I thought it would be a good idea to look at some of the ridiculous stats he has.
Scottie Scheffler finished the 2022-23 PGA Tour season with an adjusted scoring average of 68.63 , the 7th best of all time. Tiger hold places 1 to 6 of all time.
From 1997 to 2009, there were 52 players with 100 or more rounds in major championships. Tiger Woods -134, Phil Mickelson +99, Ernie Els +118. every other player in the group was 275+ shots behind Tiger.
Win percentage by 54 hole leader on PGA Tour - All players last 10 season - 42%, Tiger Woods career - 95.7%
From the 1999 Memorial to the 2001 Memorial, Tiger Woods won 20 out of 40 events, he did it again from the 2005 WGC American Express to the 2008 US Open.
From the 1999 PGA to the 2001 Masters, Tiger finished - 1st, 5th, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st in all majors. That means he had more major wins (5) than players finishing in front of him (4).
During the 2000 PGA Tour season Tiger woods recorded one round higher than 73. It was in the first round of the Master. He shot 75, the average score on the day was 75.59.
From 2004-06, Tigger Woods had 1466 putts from 3 feet and in. He missed 3 of them.
There has only been 3 instances that a player has won 7 or more times at the same course on the PGA Tour, Tiger Woods owns all 3. Bay Hill, Torrey Pines and Firestone.
In the last 60 years, there are 3 instances of a players winning 5+ consecutive starts on the PGA Tour. They all belong to Tiger.
