18th December Newsletter

Hello team, things are starting to slow down in the golfing world as we wrap up the year. All Tours take a break now for 2 - 3 weeks. But that doesn’t mean we stop going 👍🎅

This last week saw the DP World Tour play at a new course called Le Reserve, I have been lucky enough to play there, and what a course it is. The views are endless, it is a truly breathtaking course. I was quite surprised at the scores, I thought the course would be tougher for them, but I guess they are pros for a reason.

Not too much exciting news this week. I think we will see things ramping up again as we start the new year.

To all of you who are celebrating Christmas, I hope you all have a blessed time with your friends and family. 🎅

Let’s go ⛳🏌️‍♀️🏌️

Studies over Golf. Rose Zhang, 20, is taking a hiatus from the LPGA to focus on her education at Stanford during the winter quarter. After the break, the two-time NCAA champion plans to return for her first LPGA season. Zhang, feeling exhausted after five months of media and sponsor commitments, aims to balance academic priorities with potential LPGA events. She emphasizes the importance of self-care and optimal performance on the golf course while navigating professional responsibilities.

LIV Golf to 72 holes. Jon Rahm expresses optimism for potential format changes, indicating discussions. A shift to 72-hole events might address concerns with the current 54-hole format. Opinions among LIV members, including major winners like Koepka and DeChambeau, vary on extending events. Talor Gooch, LIV's 2023 points winner, anticipates discussions and notes varying player perspectives on the league's future format. I think 72-hole events are a good idea, as this could get them earning OWGR points.

Can Tiger Win Again? According to him, yes. Tiger Woods eyes a strong PGA Tour return in 2024, targeting a record-breaking 83rd title. Despite recent aches, he feels physically improved and plans to play a 'tournament a month.' Regarding majors, he stated, "I know if I can practice, I can still do it." Uncertainties persist about his US Open status, but Woods remains optimistic about a successful comeback.

From The Masters to Prison. Angel Cabrera served 30 months in prison for gender violence against his partner, Cecilia Torres Mana, between 2016 and 2018. Released in August 2023, he immediately resumed his golf career, participating in the Abierto del Litoral tournament and securing a T-10 finish. Cabrera's return to competitive golf marked a significant moment for him, stating that being back on the golf course felt like a rebirth after three years. Despite physical challenges, including wrist surgery in 2020, he is determined to prepare for the Champions Tour and make a comeback in professional golf.
