Two of my favourite event were this week, firstly the local one The Cape Town Open, hosted just down the road at Royal Cape. It is great to watch golf live. And then the Waste Management Phoenix Open, the āParty Eventā was a little less crazy this year, however, it still lived up to its name.
LIV kicked off this week under the lights, they got a hopping 12000 views on the final round, those are shocking numbers š¤Æš¤Æ.

Good Good x LAGC. Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC) welcomes Good Good Golf as an investor, enhancing its community-driven, content-first approach. Good Goodās digital influence will boost TGLās appeal, merging competitive golf with modern storytelling. Both aim to redefine fan engagement, making golf more accessible and entertaining for a new generation of players.
Canāt Stay Away. Lexi Thompson, semi-retired from full-time LPGA play, is competing selectively in 2025. She opened the Founders Cup with a 69 and plans to play at least two majors, possibly more. Ranked 55th, she must stay in the top 75 for exemptions. Her wedding is set for after the season.
LIV to the Majors. The USGA has introduced a new exemption for LIV Golf, granting the top non-exempt player in the top three of the standings entry into the 2025 U.S. Open. However, this may not benefit LIV if already qualified players fill the spots. The move signals growing legitimacy for LIV Golf in major championships.
LPGA Crack Down. The LPGA Tour is enforcing stricter slow-play penalties after complaints from players like Nelly Korda and Charley Hull. New rules include fines for slight delays and stroke penalties for taking 6+ seconds over time. Officials aim to improve pace without excessive penalties, continuing to assess further solutions.
Itās Almost Over. The PGA Tour is nearing a deal with LIV Golf after meeting with Donald Trump on February 4, seeking his involvement in negotiations with Saudi Arabiaās Public Investment Fund. Talks aim to unify menās professional golf, following years of division and legal battles, with Trumpās support seen as pivotal.
Calling Out Aimpoint. Lucas Glover has called for a ban on AimPoint, arguing it slows down play and is ineffective. The PGA Tour pro suggested multiple ways to speed up rounds, criticizing the green-reading method as "rude" and time-consuming. Others, however, argue that AimPoint could improve pace if used efficiently.
