NEWS
Short News Snippets From Around The World
Scotties Back. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will play in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am after recovering from a hand injury. The FedEx Cup champion and Hero World Challenge winner seeks a strong start to 2025 following a tied-sixth finish in last year's weather-shortened event.
Xanders Out. World No. 2 Xander Schauffele has been sidelined due to a soft tissue rib injury since late 2024, forcing him to miss recent PGA Tour events and his hometown Farmers Insurance Open. Uncertain about returning for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Schauffele continues to rest and recover.
Full Swing Season 3. Season 3 of Netflix's Full Swing, showcasing PGA Tour and LIV Golf drama, premieres February 25. Featured stars include Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, Ludvig Aberg, and Minjee Lee. Expect highlights from Scheffler's record-breaking season, Olympic bids, and emotional redemption arcs, promising intense behind-the-scenes golf action.
Make or Break. YouTube golf influencer Rick Shiels, with nearly 3 million subscribers, joins LIV Golf as an ambassador. Shiels will create engaging content, including his "Break 75" challenges and player features, to promote LIV events. This move counters the PGA Tour's Creator Council initiative, aiming to grow LIV Golf's social media presence and fanbase.
Home of Golf. The 2027 Open Championship will return to the iconic Old Course at St Andrews, marking its 31st hosting and the 100th anniversary of Bobby Jones’ historic 1927 victory. St Andrews, the "Home of Golf," first hosted the Open in 1873. Upcoming venues include Royal Portrush (2025) and Royal Birkdale (2026).
Ratings Hit. After two strong weeks, TGL's Week 3 TV ratings dropped 32%, averaging 682,000 viewers compared to 1.05 million in Week 2. The drop highlights challenges in retaining viewership without star players like Tiger Woods. Despite the decline, the average viewer age of 51 is 14 years younger than PGA Tour broadcasts, indicating some success in reaching a younger audience. TGL’s inconsistent scheduling and reliance on marquee names may hinder its growth, but Week 4’s Tiger Woods vs. Rory McIlroy matchup offers a chance to regain momentum.
