Short News Snippets From Around The World

2K25. FIFA but for Golfers! PGA TOUR 2K25 promises enhanced gameplay, iconic tournaments like the U.S. Open and The Open Championship, and expanded customization. With stars like Tiger Woods and Max Homa, new mechanics, and immersive MyCAREER features, the game aims to attract both casual and diehard golf fans. Launching February 28, it's a must-play.
TGL to Expand? The TGL Golf League is considering expansion into Las Vegas, Scottsdale, and Southern California while exploring recruitment from LIV Golf stars like Rahm and Koepka. Backed by NFL and NBA owners, TGL aims to redefine sports entertainment, though some question the lack of northern venues in its plans.
Still Moving The Needle. Tiger Woods’ TGL debut garnered over 1 million average viewers, boosting the league’s second-week ratings. Despite his team’s loss, the telecast peaked at 1.1 million viewers. TGL’s challenge lies in sustaining viewership, addressing competitive and technical issues, and maintaining momentum beyond Woods’ debut impact.
New LIV CEO. Greg Norman, a big figure in LIV Golf's rise, steps down as CEO, replaced by American Scott O'Neil. Norman, credited with launching the Saudi-funded league, will stay involved. Rory McIlroy commended Norman's efforts but supports the leadership change, emphasizing the need for experience in LIV's next phase.
New TV Deal. LIV Golf has secured a multi-year broadcast deal with Fox Sports, transitioning from the CW Network to a sports-centric platform. This move follows struggles with viewership on CW, where reruns often outperformed LIV events. Fox's partnership aligns with Saudi Arabia's ambitions, including hosting the 2034 World Cup.
The Washed Up Pro. Owen Wilson will play Pryce Cahill, a former golf pro seeking redemption through mentoring a troubled 17-year-old phenom, in an upcoming Apple TV+ comedy. Written by Jason Keller ("Ford v Ferrari"), the series marks Wilson's venture into the golf world, blending humour with heartfelt storytelling. Unfortunately, there is still no release date.
