TGL. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TGL league will debut on January 7, 2025, featuring top PGA stars in a 3v3 format. Six teams, including New York Golf Club and Boston Common Golf, will play in a unique simulator setting at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach, with playoffs set for March.

Are You Serious?? The 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black has stirred controversy with its high costs. Fan tickets are set at $750, marking a 581% increase from the 2019 PGA Championship, making it the most expensive entry in golf history. Volunteers now face a $350 fee for the “volunteer package,” doubling the 2019 fee. Rising costs and New York City market demand are cited by the PGA for these price hikes, sparking backlash from fans and volunteers alike.

Who’s Keen To Chip In? A Vermont estate, priced at $23 million, boasts a private 33-hole golf course and five additional residences across 343 acres on Lake Champlain. Originally developed in the 1940s, the property also features deep-water docks and hiking trails. While costly, the estate offers a secluded, luxurious lifestyle filled with outdoor amenities.

Shiners Out. Shriners Children’s Hospital has ended its 18-year sponsorship of the Las Vegas PGA Tour fall event, the Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin. Despite no disclosed reason, Shriners expressed pride in promoting its mission over nearly two decades. The event’s future in Las Vegas is now uncertain, with no replacement sponsor yet announced.

Legend Of The Game. 25 years ago last week we lost a legend in Payne Stewart who tragically passed away in an airplane accident at the age of 42. Payne was an 11-time PGA Tour winner, including three major championships.

INFO
How Does TGL Work?

The TGL (Tomorrow Golf League), co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, combines cutting-edge technology with traditional golf. Set to launch in January 2025, the league features six teams representing cities across the U.S., each team comprising four PGA Tour players. Matches will be held at the SoFi Center in Florida, a custom-built venue designed for a fully immersive spectator experience.

Each match is split into two segments: a team format where three players from each team compete in a 15-hole round, and individual head-to-head matches. The course is a hybrid design: players hit long shots into a massive screen, while short shots are played on a specially designed green. This setup rotates for different hole layouts, making each game unique. An interesting strategic twist is the “Hammer,” which allows teams to double their points for specific holes, adding a dynamic competitive edge.

The league’s season consists of round-robin matches, with points awarded based on wins or losses in overtime. The top four teams advance to the semifinals, culminating in a best-of-three Finals for the SoFi Cup. Each match is about two hours long, with a rapid pace supported by shot clocks and mics on all players. The innovative TGL is anticipated to captivate both traditional and new golf fans, offering a fresh, high-tech approach to the sport.
