And just like that the Olympics is over, I guess I won’t be watching Archery or Discus for another four years. Lydia Ko picked up the women’s Gold medal, which means she has won all three medals, what a player.

Although the Wyndham Championship has been suspended, Aaron Rai should take victory, with Matt Kuchar being the only one left to play, he picked up his ball on the last hole, as the event was suspended due to bad light. I mean come on dude, just finish off, he has no chance of winning or making it through to the next week’s event.

This week is jam-packed with golf, with 6 Tours in action!

NEWS
Short News Snippets From Around The World

Graeme’s In Trouble. Graeme McDowell has been suspended for one event and fined $125,000 by LIV Golf for using a Vicks nasal spray containing a banned substance. McDowell admitted the mistake, acknowledging the importance of checking medications. LIV disqualified his results from the Nashville event, where the violation occurred, and adjusted prize money and points retroactively. McDowell, critical of other tours' doping policies, praised LIV's transparency and accepted the sanctions.

Ryder Cup. The European Ryder Cup team revised its qualification system for the 2025 Ryder Cup, moving to a single points-based standing. The new system prioritizes major championships and key PGA Tour events. LIV Golf events were excluded from earning points, but LIV players with strong major performances may still qualify.

Speith’s Injury. Jordan Spieth, dealing with a lingering wrist injury from 2023, acknowledges the need to address it in the offseason. Despite ranking 14th in strokes gained off the tee, his approach play has suffered, affecting his performance and jeopardizing his chances for future events. Spieth remains optimistic but uncertain about his next steps. He suggests he may have to have surgery in the off-season.

Top Golf Struggling? Topgolf Callaway is conducting a "formal strategic review" of its Topgolf business, including a potential spin-off, due to disappointing stock performance and declining same-venue sales. The company's Q2 2024 financial report highlighted the issue, with Topgolf's same-venue sales down 8% and revenue projections for 2024 lowered by $200 million. A sell-off may be likely. My answer?! Bring one to Cape Town!

History Made. Lydia Ko won the women's golf gold at Paris 2024, making her the most decorated golfer in Olympic history with a complete set of medals. She secured her place in the LPGA Hall of Fame, becoming the first Kiwi and the youngest person to achieve this honour at 27 years old.

Double Trouble. Rickie Fowler and his wife, Allison, welcomed their second daughter, Nellie, into their family. Fowler shared the news on Instagram, expressing his happiness with a family photo. Due to this joyous occasion, Fowler chose to skip the Wyndham Championship, missing out on qualifying for the FedExCup Playoffs.
