27th November Newsletter

Hello all, the weeks keep ticking by, I can’t believe this is the 4th edition of the newsletter.

There wasn’t too much action on the golf course this week, with the DP World Tour the only Tour hosting an event (well two). This week sees all the major Tours at it again except for the ladies, with the DP World Tour doing another doubleheader.

It may have been quiet on the course however, that was not the case off the course. With some interesting news coming from the LIV Golf Tour, could we see Jon Rahm make the controversial move?

I hope you have that cup of coffee ready. ⛳🏌️‍♀️🏌️

Short News Snippets From Around The World

  • Big names lose their Tour card. The PGA Tour took a break this week, with last week’s RSM Classic being the cut off for players looking to retain their Tour card. Some notables losing their cards are Jimmy Walker, Charley Hoffman, Harry Higgs, Doc Redman, Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson. Most of these players will need to go back to Q-School. However, some of them can fall back on their career money list rankings.

  • TGL delayed until 2025. The launch of TGL, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods' tech-infused golf league, is delayed until 2025 due to damage at the SoFi Center in Florida. The venue's roof collapsed after a power outage, impacting the air-supported dome. No injuries were reported, and technology was largely unaffected. TGL officials, including Woods, express disappointment but emphasize the commitment to delivering an enhanced experience when the season begins in early 2025.

  • Speith replaces Rory. Jordan Spieth has been appointed to the PGA Tour's policy board, succeeding Rory McIlroy, who resigned due to personal and professional commitments. McIlroy, a player director since 2021, was set to serve until 2024. Spieth, chosen by the other player directors, will fulfill the remainder of McIlroy's term. Spieth's term concludes at the end of 2024, coinciding with the original timeframe.

  • Rahm to LIV Golf. Phil Mickelson reportedly claims that Jon Rahm joining LIV Golf is a "done deal," with rumours swirling about a $600 million offer from the Saudi-backed league. Despite Rahm's previous disinterest in LIV's format, he withdrew from TGL, backed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. Rahm's exclusion from majors and criticism of Ryder Cup exclusions for LIV players remain challenges. While Rahm has not confirmed the move, Mickelson anticipates more signings for LIV, even as the league's future amid negotiations with the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund remains uncertain. Would you turn down $600 million?

STATS
Is Ludvig Aberg The Next Big Thing?

Ludvig Aberg played 54 rounds as a pro so far.

His stroke average: 67.39

Tiger's stroke average in his first 54 rounds as a pro: 68.81

This Stat is quite remarkable, it may not seem like a lot but it is 5.68 shots better per tournament, and almost 77 shots less in those 54 rounds. I think this guy will be the next big thing.

A DP World Tour win, PGA Tour Win, and Ryder Cup win all within 6 months of turning pro. If that doesn’t catch your attention nothing will.

TIPS
My Top 5 Putting Tips

Perfecting your putting technique is essential for improving your golf score. Here are five key tips:

  • Grip Variation:
Challenge the traditional grip by having your palms face slightly upward. This minimizes wrist rotation, ensuring a more controlled and consistent stroke.

  • Alignment:
Correct alignment is crucial. Use a buddy to verify your alignment on an 8-foot putt. If misaligned, practice with an alignment stick until your stroke adjusts.

  • Steady Eyes:
Maintain steady eyes, not just a still head. A dot on the ball helps keep focus and prevents inconsistent strokes, especially in pressure situations.

  • Perfect Strike:
Striking the middle of the putter is vital. Practice with tees slightly wider than the putter head to ensure a more consistent and accurate stroke.

  • Speed Drill:
Achieving the right speed on long putts is key. Create a 2-foot circle around the hole with tees. Practice putts from various distances, aiming to keep the ball within the circle for both accuracy and speed.

In summary, refining your grip, eye movement, alignment, speed, and strike can significantly enhance your putting skills, ultimately impacting your overall golf performance.
