We had a legend bid farewell to the DP World Tour in Bernhard Langer, 50 years he played on the Tour!

There are some proper young guns coming through at the moment, I am super excited to see how they do in the next few years. The Open is coming up in a couple of weeks. It is arguably my favourite Major of the year.

A big shoutout goes to X Golf for sponsoring this newsletter, they are launching a new range finder in the next couple of months. Golf Cart Wars. US golf cart makers Club Car LLC and Textron Specialized Vehicles Inc. are requesting the Biden administration to impose a 100% tariff on Chinese-made golf carts. They claim these imports, often modified in the US to avoid higher tariffs, have surged from $148 million in 2020 to $916 million in 2023, undermining domestic producers.

Best Pub Ever? The best place on earth keeps getting better. Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake received approval to transform St. Andrews' movie theatre into a sports bar, T-Squared Social. Despite initial resistance, the Fife Council granted planning permission. The project, part of Nexus Luxury Collection, will retain a movie screen, creating 40-45 jobs. The luxury bar will feature golf simulators, duckpin bowling, and darts.

Legend of the Game. Bernhard Langer ends his 50-year European Tour career after missing the cut at the BMW International Open. The 66-year-old, who debuted in 1974, won 42 titles and was the world No. 1 in 1986. Langer, who will continue on the PGA Tour Champions, has 123 career titles, including two Masters wins.

Young Gun. Amateur Luke Clanton achieved consecutive top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour, the first since Billy Joe Patton in 1957-58. Clanton, a 20-year-old Florida State junior, tied for second at the John Deere Classic after finishing 10th at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Clanton, ranked No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, plans to stay amateur.

Next Big Thing. Michael Thorbjornsen, 22, from Stanford University, tied for second at the John Deere Classic with an 8-under 63 final round. This impressive finish, in his third PGA Tour event as a pro, follows a tie for 39th at the Travelers Championship and a missed cut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He earned his PGA TourCard by being the No.1 ranked University Golfer last season. Big things to come from this kid. Check his swing out here.

OLYMPICS
All the info you need for the golf at the Olympics ⛳🏌️‍♀️

Golf returned to the Olympics in Rio 2016 after a century-long hiatus and was featured again in Tokyo 2020. The 2024 Olympic Golf competition will be held at Le Golf National near Paris, with the men's tournament from August 1-4 and the women's from August 7-10.

Qualification Process

120 athletes will compete in Paris, with 60 men and 60 women. Qualification is based on the Olympic Golf Ranking (OGR), derived from the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). The top 15 ranked players qualify, limited to four per country. Beyond that, players are eligible based on world rankings, with a cap of two per country unless already represented in the top 15.

Continental places ensure each continent has at least one athlete in each event. These spots go to the highest-ranked athletes from underrepresented continents if not automatically qualified.

Olympic Golf Rankings

The OGR is updated weekly, reflecting performances in ranking tournaments over a two-year period. Points are awarded based on final positions, with stronger fields earning more points.

Competition Format

The competition involves 72 holes of individual stroke play over four days, with no cut. Scores are cumulative, and the player with the lowest overall score wins.

Le Golf National

Le Golf National, located in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines near Versailles, will host the 2024 Paris Olympic golf events. Designed by Hubert Chesneau and Robert Von Hagge, it opened in 1991 and is managed by the French Golf Federation. The par-72 course stretches 6,649 yards and features undulating fairways, strategic water hazards, and large greens. Renovated in 2016, it hosted the 2018 Ryder Cup, showcasing its challenging layout. The course demands precision and strategy, ensuring a tough competition. As the Olympics approach, Le Golf National promises an exciting and memorable challenge for the world’s best golfers.

Tokyo 2020 Recap

In Tokyo, Xander Schauffele (USA) won gold in the men's event, with Rory Sabbatini (Slovakia) taking silver and C.T. Pan (Chinese Taipei) winning bronze. In the women's event, Nelly Korda (USA) secured gold, Mone Inami (Japan) won silver, and Lydia Ko (New Zealand) claimed bronze.
