Short News Snippets From Around The World

Common Sense Prevails. Scottie Scheffler's charges have been dismissed after his arrest outside the PGA Championship. The golfer faced felony assault and other charges following a chaotic scene near a fatal crash. Jefferson County Attorney cited insufficient evidence. Scheffler expressed gratitude and aims to move forward, emphasizing respect for law enforcement amidst the incident's aftermath.

Too soon? Lexi Thompson, 29, will retire from professional golf at the end of the 2024 season. The 11-time LPGA Tour champion cited the pressures and loneliness of the sport. Despite her challenges, she aims to inspire future golfers and spend more time with family and friends in her next chapter.

She is Human. Nelly Korda scored a disastrous 10 on the par-3 12th hole at the U.S. Women’s Open, resulting in an 80 for the round. The mishap began with a bunker shot that rolled into a stream, leading to multiple penalties and missed putts. “I’m human,” Korda said. “I’m going to have bad days. I played some really solid golf up to this point. Today was just a bad day. That’s all I can say.”

A Groggy 66. Rory McIlroy admitted he played the Canadian Open's first round hungover after celebrating his caddie Harry Diamond’s birthday. Despite a slow start and a wayward shot into a hospitality tent, McIlroy finished with an impressive four-under-par 66. He said "Harry’s birthday dinner last night so had a couple of glasses of wine. I was probably feeling a little groggy when I woke up." We have all been there on golf tour, but certainly didn’t shoot 66. 😂😂

German Cyborg. Bernhard Langer, despite his Achilles tendon injury earlier in the year, in the Principal Charity Classic, trying to capture his 47th PGA Tour Champions title. He shot a 63 in round two, showing his resilience. He eventually finished in T3, -17.

‘Ripping Darts’ 🚬. Charley Hull, the No. 8-ranked LPGA golfer, is making waves akin to John Daly. While known for her victories on the LPGA and Ladies European Tour, it's her recent viral video signing autographs while smoking that's caught attention. The comparison to Daly's unconventional style is creating quite the buzz.
