20th November Newsletter

Hello everyone, a big thanks go out again to all of you for the support. We are going at a rate of knots.

This week sees the end of the DP World Tour Season with Nicolai Højgaard winning the event and Rory McIlroy taking home the season long trophy.

A quick mention goes out to Ludvig Åberg who won on the PGA Tour this week, quite an impressive start to his career since turning pro in June - two wins and a Ryder Cup pick, definitely one to watch.

It has been an interesting week with Tiger announcing his return, Matt Wallace making 9 birdies in a row on his back nine in round 3, the ‘interesting’ Netflix Cup, and some exciting news for women’s golf.

Take that sip of coffee and let’s dive in. ⛳🏌️‍♀️🏌️

Short News Snippets From Around The World

  • The Inaugural Netflix Cup. Justin Thomas and F1 driver Carlos Sainz won the inaugural Netflix Cup in Las Vegas, defeating Tony Finau and Pierre Gasly. The unconventional event featured unique challenges, including a closest-to-pin contest and bizarre golf antics. The competition, Netflix's first live sports broadcast, attracted celebrities from around the world. In my honest opinion, the event was great and added something different to the game, but it was just a bit cringy at times.

  • Rory Resigns From PGA Tour Board. Rory McIlroy abruptly resigned from the PGA Tour board, citing "professional and personal commitments" amid ongoing discussions about a new golf enterprise involving Saudi Arabia's national wealth fund. McIlroy, a key figure in the PGA Tour's battle against LIV golf, served on the board for two years. The Framework Agreement involving the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund faces uncertainty, and McIlroy's departure comes as a potential obstacle to its finalization. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan praised McIlroy's contributions and respected his decision to focus on his game and family.

  • LPGA Players To Get A Pay Raise. Starting in 2024, the LPGA Tour's season-ending CME Group Tour Championship will boast a historic purse in women's golf, reaching a record $11 million. The partnership brings a winner's prize of $4 million and $1 million for the runner-up, doubling the current season's winnings. Additionally, all 60 qualifying competitors will receive a minimum of $55,000, significantly enhancing recognition and financial support for every player. The total purse represents a $4 million increase from the current year's event.

  • The Goat Returns 🐐. Tiger Woods confirms his participation in the 2023 Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas after recovering from surgery when he withdrew from the 2023 Masters. Social media videos of Woods caddying for his son fueled speculation about his return. The non-official PGA Tour event, hosted by Woods, features a top-tier field of 20 players, including Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Max Homa, Rickie Fowler, Viktor Hovland, and Collin Morikawa. It is great to see the Goat back.

STATS
Don’t Kill Yourself Over Six Footers

From exactly 6'0" the typical tour pro misses 35% of their putts. That’s 3.5 putts out of 10.

Should you try to make every six footer? Yes. Will you make every six footer? No.

I always say the best way to manage your expectations is to think of these two things.

  • Did you hit it at the speed you wanted

  • Did you start it on the line you wanted

If you did those two things correctly then it is irrelevant if you make the putt or not. There are too many variables when it comes to putting, try to manage the things you have control of.
