Short News Snippets From Around The World

  • PGA Tour and LIV? PGA Tour makes an interesting call by allowing players to participate in LIV Golf event, signalling potential reconciliation amid recent talks with LIV's backers. Players can join the LIV Golf Promotions event without facing the previous one-year suspension. The move comes as the Tour and LIV Golf navigate a proposed deal. The Promotions event, held in Abu Dhabi from Dec 8 to 10, offers a $1.5 million purse and a chance for top finishers to enter the LIV tour next year.

  • The return of Tiger. Tiger Woods, named player-owner of TGL's Jupiter Links Golf Club, takes a swipe at LIV Golf, deeming TGL easier to follow. The tech-infused league, co-founded by Woods and Rory McIlroy, kicks off on January 9. Woods praises TGL's simplicity and expects it to make golf more accessible. He confirms being pain-free in his surgically repaired ankle but remains uncertain about his return to action since April.

  • Can’t bet on your mates? Korn Ferry Tour golfers Vince India and Jake Staiano were suspended for three and six months, respectively, for betting on PGA Tour competitions, violating the "Integrity Program." The PGA Tour disclosed the suspensions, specifying that neither placed bets on tournaments they participated in. India, 34, faces a six-month suspension, while Staiano, 26, is suspended for three months. The PGA Tour declined further comment on the matter.

  • 15-year-old on the PGA Tour. Oliver Betschart, a 15-year-old golfer from Bermuda, made his PGA Tour debut at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship this week, becoming the youngest player on Tour since 2014. Despite being years away from college golf, Betschart qualified for the event three weeks ago, securing one of three available spots. Oliver unfortunately missed the cut, finishing +6. Not a bad effort I must say.

  • Rory makes it 5. With the result at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, Rory McIlroy claims his 5 DP World Tour Title. With his 2000+ point lead over Jon Rahm, no one can pass him at this week’s final event.

STATS
Stop Laying back, get as close to the green as possible

96% of amateur golfers perform better from 40 to 60 yards than they do from 90 to 110 yards.

If you are laying back to your "favourite number", you are very likely costing yourself strokes.

Advance the ball as far as you can, as often as you can, taking into account penalty strokes and other hazards.

TIPS
Mastering the Draw Shot

Mastering the draw shot in golf will help you increase clubhead speed, hit the ball further and create more consistency. Ultimately lowering your scores.

Creating a V-shape with your thumb and index finger and having them point towards your right shoulder is key, as well as gripping the club in your fingers. You will need your feet, hips and shoulders either parallel to the target or slightly closed to create a draw shape.

Common mistakes, like a weak grip or an outside-in swing path, will cause you to hit a slice. Troubleshooting issues like loss of balance and inconsistent contact requires attention to weight distribution and maintaining a smooth swing tempo.

In conclusion, mastering the draw shot offers strategic advantages, providing control, increased distance, and confidence on challenging courses. Attention to grip, stance, swing path, and body mechanics, coupled with consistent practice, empowers you to effectively incorporate the draw into your game.
