The DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour had their co-sanctioned event this week at St Francis Links, one of my favourite courses in South Africa. It is a true test of golf, and the scoring showed, with the pros posting some big numbers.

Let me know what you think of Talor Gooch’s comments on Rory McIlroy, I think he is an absolute idiot, Social Media certainly thought so, with people ripping into him.

Anthony Kim did exactly what I thought he would do, come stone last in his first event back. I think let’s give him some slack as he has not competed in a long time. I am interested to see how he goes for the rest of the season.

Let’s jump in. 🏌️‍♀️⛳☕

Sour Gooch 🙈. Talor Gooch had some interesting things to say about Rory McIlroy this week ‘If Rory McIlroy goes and completes his Grand Slam without some of the best players in the world, there's just going to be an asterisk. It's just the reality.’ I mean what an idiot seriously. Rory came back giving him the benefit of the doubt, saying the interviewer led him down the path to say it.

Probably Still Won’t Watch. LIV Golf secured a TV rights deal with Caffeine, a U.S.-based streaming partner, for Friday tournament coverage, addressing the longstanding "Friday problem" and expanding its reach. While not a major player, Caffeine offers engagement with a young demographic and potential long-term opportunities, backed by significant investment and media ties.

Off The Rack. John Daly opts for a $750 direct-to-consumer iron set from Sub 70, alongside his customized Callaway driver and 3-wood, aiming for success at the PNC Championship. Despite his unconventional style and off-course antics, Daly's choice reflects his appreciation for quality clubs, demonstrating that even pros appreciate affordable options. Owner of Sub70 Jason Hiland said he was as surprised as everyone else when he found out Daly was using their irons.

Comeback Kid. Forget Anthony Kim, let’s talk about Bud Cauley. After a three-year injury hiatus (car accident), Bud Cauley seized the lead at the Cognizant Classic with a stellar second-round performance. His six-under-par 65 put him at 11-under for the tournament, he is currently T28 with 3 holes to play in round four. Cauley's return to form showcases his resilience and determination to compete at the highest level.

$1 Million Dollars. Sergio Garcia faces a daunting obstacle to revive his Ryder Cup dreams, needing to settle over $1 million in fines and serve nine weeks of bans to rejoin the DP World Tour. Despite his eagerness to compete, Garcia's plan hinges on clearing substantial debts and overcoming regulatory hurdles. I doubt he would even make the team, so what is the point?

Quite The Field. Tiger Woods headlines the Seminole Pro-Member event in Florida, paired with PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh. Rory McIlroy also competes, playing alongside his father Gerry. Notable pros like Justin Thomas, Padraig Harrington, and Nelly Korda join the field. LIV Golfers are absent for the second consecutive year. I wouldn’t mind being a member there.

STATS
How Good Are Your Wedges? ⛳

How good are your wedges from 80 yards in the fairway? How good do they need to be? What is a good shot from that distance?

GREEN LIGHT SPECIAL!

Many golfers think wedges from this distance are "green light specials". You should be very aggressive and make as many birdies as possible. This distance is a green light special in that it's a great opportunity to NOT make bogey (or worse).

THE DATA

A typical 5 index from 80 yards in the fairway:

Chances they make birdie:
➡️13%
Chances they make bogey or worse:
➡️19%
Chances shot finishes >30 feet from the hole:
➡️38%

EXPECTATIONS

From this distance, the main goal is to make sure you hit the green. Minimize how often you make bogey. Be careful about challenging tucked pins. Is it great to walk away with a bird? Yes. Absolutely. But it's better to walk away without having made bogey (or worse).
