It was great to see some old faces back in the winner’s circle this weekend. Vegas and Choi both rolled back the years to find themselves winners again.

The Olympics is well underway, and the golf kicks off this week, which should make some fun viewing, I guess you can say it is the rarest trophy in the sport, as it only comes around every 4 years.

NEWS
Short News Snippets From Around The World

The Open Viewings. Xander Schauffele's win was incredible, but TV ratings were the lowest in almost a decade, with 3.39 million viewers. Factors include the absence of top players and a general decline in viewership for major golf events in 2024, despite some increases in other tournaments. I find this so weird, I really enjoyed The Open this year, and thought the numbers would be higher.

Bryson vs Trump. Bryson DeChambeau played golf with former President Donald Trump for a YouTube charity video, raising nearly $30,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project. DeChambeau expressed willingness to play with figures from both political parties to promote unity and charity. Since the video's release, his YouTube channel has surpassed 1 million subscribers. If you haven’t already watched the video, check it out here.

Poor Charlie. Charlie Woods, son of Tiger Woods, shot a 10-over par 80, missing the cut at the US Junior Amateur championship. Over two rounds, he totalled 22-over 162 at Oakland Hills Country Club, falling 18 strokes short of match-play qualification. Tiger Woods was walking with him during the event.

Comeback King. Jhonattan Vegas secured his first PGA TOUR win in seven years at the 3M Open. Overcoming severe injuries and a lengthy wait on the 18th hole, he managed a birdie to clinch victory. The win boosts his FedExCup standing and secures his status on TOUR through 2026. What a comeback.

U.S. Junior Champ. Trevor Gutschewski, 17, won the U.S. Junior Amateur, beating Tyler Watts 4 and 3, earning a 2025 U.S. Open exemption. Gutschewski, son of PGA player Scott Gutschewski, sealed victory with a putt on the 33rd hole. Watts led early but Gutschewski’s birdie on the 25th hole secured his lead. Some proper young talent is coming through at the moment.
